A Note of Gratitude

June 28, 2024

Dear Members of the Yale Community,

As I begin my last working day as president, I would like to thank you for making the eleven years in this role immensely rewarding. Your contributions to Yale, to our home city, and to the world we are working to improve inspired every single moment of my service.

I am proud of the transformative strides we have made since 2013 and the ways we have built on what was accomplished by previous generations. It is equally gratifying to consider the foundation we have created for those to whom we will pass the baton. Yale has a long and rich history in which we have written our own chapter. And we can take great satisfaction in the way we did so together, as a community, amid extraordinary challenge and change, including a once-in-a-generation global pandemic.

I look forward to many things that lie ahead, most especially a return to the faculty. I will have more time to reconnect with you in this new way on campus and to volunteer with organizations in our home city and elsewhere.

Finally, I am excited to work with and support our next president, Maurie McInnis, so we can build on the momentum that this community has generated. With Maurie’s track record of success and knowledge of our university, I have no doubt that she will continue to advance Yale’s priorities and excellence. I know you will enjoy getting to know her.

Today, I conclude my presidency how I began it: honored and humbled by your trust, inspired by your confidence, and optimistic about the years to come.

Sincerely,

Peter Salovey
